Poolside with Gus Johnson

Right now, I'm sitting at the pool here at the hotel and I'm really thinking hard about what transpired with the Knicks. It's very distracting because there's a regular pool and then there's a European pool, and you can just imagine what's going on at the European pool.

I think that Isiah's getting what he wanted. He wanted an athletic guy that can play defense, run the floor, make things happen, come up with energy plays, and I think Renaldo Balkman is going to be that kind of player. I just have a good feeling about him.

Mardy Collins has already shown that he can guard bigger guys. He can rebound a little bit, he can pass the ball, he can score, and he's only a rookie. But he plays defense, so I don't know.

I think old Zeke may know something that we all don't know to be real comfortable with where he's sitting right now and it will be interesting to watch the rest of these summer league games.

Until tomorrow, when we watch the Knicks play Phoenix - by the way Amare Stoudemire is supposed to play, so that should be interesting to watch him come back after spending the whole year out with an injury - but until tomorrow, I will sit here at the European pool and think long and hard about today's game and what the Knicks have to do to get ready for tomorrow's game.

lol.. gus is haveing fun in vegas... the knicks looked solid today , it looked midway through the second period they begin to press clevand and really started exploiting there weekness. chainning looked real good , lee showed an improved outside shot , mardy collins had a nice play to split the defensive and find nate in the corner wide open , and balkman showed hes an atlehtic freak . im really happy with our summer league roster tomorrow's game is gonna be really intresting.

The Big Picture & The funny thing is everyone freaks out when Larry Brown is fired, practically throw eggs on draft night at Isaih for the knicks first draft selection, and now we begin to see that Isaih wasn't one of our sports 50 greatest players for nothing. Isaih simply without a doubt knows talent. Our 2 rookies though it was only 1 game looked exactly like what Isaih said we sought out to get. Energy & Defense! 2 MAJOR components that were missing all of last year. These 2 ingredients are indeed contagious as we witnessed yesterday in our first summer league game. Calm down you say. What, It's only Summer League. Well I'll tell you this & nothing more for now- "I do believe that Balkman is an athletic freak with beast like tendencies that will easily be able to transition his abilities into the pro game."

P.s. Hey Gus Order me a Thug Passion will ya. This Knicks Fan Needs a drink from the Roller Coaster Ride I’ve been on the past several years.

Gus, best comment some your Steph interview yesterday... Gus: "So your basically saying Larry made you a man?"... Steph: "Nah, i aint giving him that much credit." Ha, i thought that was classic. But in all seriousness, its great to see Steph out in Vegas supporting the team. Although he says he has nothing to prove, everyone in organization from the GM/Coach to our franchise player (Steph) has something to prove this year. But i love to see his optimism and him being in Vegas with the team, when he obviously doesn't have to be there, means a lot to this team, and quite honestly means a lot to me as a die-hard Knicks fan and season ticket holder.
